I'm a Dem, and I don't hate my country. I don't bash the country or the troops, who are the best in the world, hands down.
But where are these hippies everyone refers to? I haven't seen them since the '70s and I used to be one.
And "move to france" is similar to what they told me when I protested the war in the sixties. Turned out that the country came around to this hippies way of thinking, just as the country has come to the opinion that they've been bamboozled by the Bush administration. Remember, a majority of Americans do not agree with this war, at this point in time. Are they all hippies? I don't think so.
So' IMHO, Americans opposing the war (and the man who started it) are not unpatriotic. They are excercising the right to protest, guaranteed in the very first Amendment to the constitution, and for which millions have died over the centuries.
I'll leave you with a quote from a famous American, a Republican no less.
"To sin by silence when one should protest makes cowards out of men"
Abraham Lincoln.

I think the word Patriotism has changed in meaning and this is why we have come to disagree upon its definition as a country. Before, hot dogs, local stores baseball, good times, good music was patriotism. Now patriotism almost implies a sense of conservatism, like its a bad word only meant to be mentioned with war, Bush, other republicans, and rich folks. Hippies are also just bashing more things here now because they have become less patriotic (less patriotic in the sense of the older days). They want to see America not under Bush and not under the influence of such confusion of definition for our country.

It has nothing to do with lack of patriotism, but I do not like this propaganda machine and hate to see so many people like you tail whacking to it.
This has happened in the past, look toward Europe in the early 1930's, and what happened?
What does a propaganda machine do??? Just wake up and have a coffee.

Hate is a strong word here. I love America. I strongly disagree with having a blithering idiot who is incapable of making a speech without looking to the side for a human prompter because he can't read the teleprompter. That's the difference. It is not hate.

I think that first we need to figure out America's problems before we start worrying about other countries problems.
You would think with so many intelligent people out there we would be able to figure out a better solution then "war".

Sometimes there is no accounting for hatred. If you are really a Democrat who doesn't hate President Bush, you should be protected under the endangered species act. We need more rational people here.

patriotism was meant to replace religion in a new world, now we no longer need to draw all these lines between "them" and "us", so patriotism is doomed to go the way of religion - before long both will no longer exist except for fanatical factions.
