Do you get an allowance? Just buy them yourself and maybe she'll see them if you place them in an open area where there is no way she could avoid them. Then maybe she'll bring it up to you and you won't have to worry about approaching her about it.
Secondly, she is your mother so she should think that anything that is that important to you should also be important to her and nothing should be embarrassing because it is in her job as a parent to be open to whatever you have to talk to her about. I think it's a much smaller problem than you think about approaching her. Just blurt it out, "Mom I wanna start using tampons" What's she gonna say?

I think something that we don't think about sometimes is that our moms were our age one time too. What I also think is that if you learned about exactly what the difference between them and pads are, and you became well educated about the risks of TSS and how to make sure to prevent it with tampons, and which parts of your period not to use tampons during, you'd feel very confident in knowing and she'd be impressed that you did the research.
On the other hand, I bet she'd be more than happy to explain it as well. It is kind of a weird subject, but the more you talk to her about this the easier it will be.
I think the best way sometimes is just throwing it out there, and saying that you'd feel more comfortable using tampons sometimes, and that you'd appreciate her opinion on it. She'll surely not argue, and in an instant it'll be done with.

hey don't worry!
Don't be embarrassed.
Your mom has been a woman long enough to get it, so she won't be freaked out or anything.
Just be like "Mom I would really like to try tampons instead of pads all the time. I've used tampons before and they're better than pads so can I start using those instead?"
Then she'll be like "Oh yeah, of course."
and you're done!
I remember I felt this way once. Eventually I asked her and it was totally no big deal and so now I've been using tampons forever.
Go ahead. It'll be ok.

There is no easy way to ask her because you are asking us how. You just need to know that it is normal to be embarrassed and is probably embarrassing for your mom too. Just pick a time when its just the two of you and less chance of being interrupted. Let her know why you want to use tampons and that you have already tried them, because of the circumstances at your best friends house. She's your mom, she has been there, done that.

This is coming from a woman who, when started her period over 30 years ago came home from school and found a box of kotex on my dresser and was never spoke to about it. I really think it has to do with the kind of relationship you have with your mother. Are you close to her? Do you feel as though you can talk to her about anything? Just always have an open line of communication with your mom, it's soooo important. And ask yourself, "what's the worst she could say" Don't ever be afaid to dicuss anything with your mom. I always said that with my kids it would be different and it is!!! Take care

your mom ought to be more in tune with you. sorry. do you ever shop with her? throw a box in the buggy. or take the pads that she buys back to the store and exchange for tampons. she will eventually see the tampons at your house (i hope!) and get the message. i know you can't imagine this but to adults a period, tampons, pads etc is not a big deal. good luck....

This is exactly the type of thing your mom would want to hear about. Don't make a big deal about it. The next time she is going to the store, just write it on her list, or say, "Hey mom, can you get me some tampons?" Don't be embarrassed.

Well your school nurse should have some. or you can buy your own. Or just say hey mom next time you go to the store can you pick me up some tampons. There is no need to freak out. I ask my boyfriend to get them for me and he does. I was with him for 2 yrs before I asked him. He made a big deal but duh he is a guy. Just ask her Im sure she'll understand.

It used to feel like there was a canoe between my legs. Tampons were the only thing for me. You could got for a mother-daughter talk. Ask what she uses, then ask her if she has tried anything else. Then bring up the subject of tampons and how you'd like to try them. (act like you never have)
