I have a simple fracture at the base of my little toe. I have been successfully walking on it using a special orthepedic boot that keeps my foot flat. The other day while cleaning my foot, I separated my toes too much, and wow did that hurt. The rest of the day I didn't walk on it and it still hurt. Today, it is better, but there still is a little pain. I have decided to stay off of it for a few days. Anyhow, did I injure my foot again and set back the healing by separating my toes. Nothing is swollen and it looks normal from the outside.

You probably broke the little callus or new bone that has formed around the fracture when you cleaned your foot and you start nearly all over again. This is the reason why broken bones have to be immobilized-to let them heal without unnecessary movement. Try strapping your little toe on to your 4th toe with a little sticky plaster. your 4th toe will act as a splint for your little toe while the bone heals. Just make sure the space between your toes are dry at all times by putting a bit of tissue or cotton between them before taping. If you do this, you can even get rid of your boot. This is called buddy strapping in orthopaedic lingo. Do this for about 4 weeks and you should be OK.

usually it takes 6 weeks for a fracture to heal, so you are about half way there...the bones start knitting together right away, but its not strong enough to put stress on for at least 3-4 weeks. you probably did not re-break it, so take it easy and it will heal again...
