When Columbus and his sailors came ashore Bahama Islands, carrying swords, the Arawaks came to greet them with food, water and gifts. And what Columbus did in return was take some of the Arawak Indians as captives or slaves and brought them and insisted that they guide him to the source of gold. When the Spaniards took prisoners, they hang them and burned them. Some of the Arawak Indians committed mass suicides to escape from the hell they were in to.

So why do we celebrate Columbus Day???

America was founded on contradictory ideals. Liberty for some, massacres and slavery for others. It's funny sometimes.

And I don't celebrate Columbus Day and I don't know a soul who does. The things that man did were horrible...

And I find it interesting that no one's answering this question...lol.

I know! I hate Columbus Day! It's a racist hoiliday! Columbus is responsible for the depopulation of the Native Americans and the enslavement of the natives and the Africans. He also came ashore to the island of Hispanola and he killed my ancestors off with his diseases!

I don't celebrate Columbus Day. And my children, card carrying Native Americans, don't either.
