Some people asked what gave me that idea. . I live in Japan and recently went on a double date with my friend and 2 American ladies. That proudly confessed they they are ashamed to introduce themselves as Americans, rather they tell people they are from Canada.

I can understand. I know people who travel overseas who introduce themselves as Canadian instead of American. See, me...I'm not ashamed of this Country. This country is a beautiful country with a lot of beautiful people...but the people who are in power in this country; government, big business...(rich people) they make me ashamed because they do things in the name of America that just aren't right.

If you look at the post below me...you'll see that the rest of the world is uneducated as well. We as Americans aren't evil people, and there have been "conspiracy theories" that we the people didn't elect the president who is in current power. Just because the government is evil doesn't mean the citizens are! Get a clue man.

I think it might be due to Bush and his wars....the US is getting a lot of bad rap due to the Bush administration. I live in Italy, and right after the war in Afghanistan an Italian girl started talking to me, and asked me where I was from. When I said the US she turned around and walked off. I thought that was pretty rude, but oh well. Maybe the 2 American ladies you met, met people like the one I met.

Im British and I stayed in the US for a year. People do get confused over the difference from America which is a truely great country with the current American government which is dispicable. People should make the distinction.

Probably because our society is in a grave state of moral decline and we have basically (kicked God to the curb) and there are consequences for that as a "nation"...and maybe they have other reasons as well. However; as a democracy and with the freedom I have to worship God, I would rather be here. For those who don't , there are planes leaving everyday in all 50 states. If you hate the USA there are other places to go & live.

IT IS A SHAME THAT AMERICANS ARE AFRAID TO TAKE THE FALK FOR THE POLICIES OF THEIR GOVERNMENT THEY SO OVERWHELMINGLY ELECTED.

IT IS YOUR GOVERNMENTS POLICIES AROUND THE WORLD THAT BRING OUT THE HATRED TOWARDS YOUR NATION. IT IS WHAT YOU REPRESENT THAT IS DISLIKED, THE DOUBLE STANDARDS IN APPLYING JUSTICE THAT IS QUESTIONED, IT IS THE PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT THAT SOME ARE BESTOWED WITH IN STARK CONTRAST TO OTHERS THAT IS LOATHED, IT IS THE BIG BROTHER 'I AM RIGHT' ATTITUDE THAT YOU TRY & FORCE DOWN THE WEAKER OPPONENTS THROAT THAT IS TAKEN AS AN INSULT.

HONESTLY, IT IS THE FOREING POLICY AND THE APPLICATION OF THOSE POLICIESTHAT SHAPES THE PERCEPTION OF THE AMERICAN PSYQUE, FROM THE OUTSIDE.

HERE IN THE MIDDLE EAST, THE AMERICANS ARE SEEN AS VERMIN IN STREETS OF CERTAIN NATIONS, WHILE OTHERS WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS.......... YOU AS INDIVIDUALS ARE HUMANS, BUT WHAT YOU ARE REPRESENTING IS WHAT IS HARD TO SWALLOW.

THESE ARE PROBABLY A FEW OF HUNDRED REASONS FOR THEM TUCKING THEIR TAIL & TALE AS WELL, BETWEEN THEIR LEGS.....

Most of us- don't. But some of us are not proud of the way our government has been acting in recent years, & they'd rather not be associated with it. America has MANY wonderfull people...-But we don't always make the best choices when picking out leaders is concerned.

Lolz. Canada...wow.

I've never truly loved America. History classes will do that to a person, heh. But I won't deny that this is my home country.

Perhaps they are ashamed to come from a country that would ridicule the president so badly, and destroy the morale of his armed forces.
