classification essays?

I need help. I need to write an essay on classification. three types of diet. I go atkins, weight watchers, and south beach. How to I get started. If anyones know about writing a essay please help me get started. thank you

My teachers just said to chose a topic and then classify it. I just do not know how to begin to talk. How should I start the indroduction. please help and need a good grade ha ha

I would not necessarily go that way. You could try classifing diets this way...

1. Elimination/strict reduction diets : diets that eliminate or greatly reduce one part of food. For example Atkins with carbohydrates, 20 grams of fat a day, Soup diet, Rice diet, liquid diets.

2. Point based diets: diets that assign ppoint values to foods and assign points. For example Weight Watchers or Deal a Meal.

3. Restrained portion diets: diets that are based on a well rounded menu and portion control. For example: South Beach, Nutra System.

This way you are setting categories and are placing items in them. You could set up your thesis that diets follow one of several methods. Then each method is a seprate paragraph or several...

Because those seprate diets are names not classifications. Like Poodle, Simese Cat, and Cardinal are not classifications but types of dogs, cats, and birds which are classifications...

You need to have a thesis. What was your teacher asking you to do? Compare the three? Are you to show that one has greater merit? are you trying to show how they are the same? different?
Whatever you have been asked to do, your thesis is the answer to the question your teacher has asked.

You need to introduce the topic in your first paragraph. Your thesis statemtent should be the last sentence before the end of the intro.

You need at least three body paragraphs where you discuss the points of your essay. make sure you introduce all ideas, provide proof (quotes are best) and that you explain every proof (why is it a good example?).

You need a conclusion to show the conclusions you have come up with based on your arguments. You shouldhave a restated thesis statement (your thesis stated in different words).
