Why has there been a dramatic increase in Christian American converts to Islam post 9-11?

Question

This question is in response to an answer that I saw posted where a person claimed that they were a Christian until they realized how evil the Bible was. They also claimed that this caused them to find a new more peaceful religion; Islam. I'm still laughing!

I believe the increase in converts is a simplistic attempt to feel safe resulting in the largest majority of these converts having a pathological need to view the attacker as harmless or even beneficial in order to attain this feeling of safety. Basically, if they are able to view themselves as the oppressor and the attacker as the victim they 1: have power to stop the danger and 2: are able to mentally create weakness in the attacker thereby rendering them harmless.

I am not religious, however I very much respect every persons religious rights as defined by the first amendment. I also see where religion can be both beneficial and misused by fanatics.

What are your thoughts on the Christian to Islam converts post 911?

Wondermom- They are not all Islamic links. In fact on of them is an anti-Islamic link. And I didn't say the whole country is converting. I said there has been a dramatic statistical increase in the rate of conversion post 9-11.

I can't believe so many people are denying this! This has made national news several times. It was even in People Magazine. It's not like the whole country is converting not even a large group. There has been a large jump in the annual numbers of people converting after September 11. I believe that you are correct in your psychoanalysis. One other thing you should have included in this is that most of the converts are white women not blacks as someone else guessed. It's not just happening in America but Europe too. I have provided a link from the Christian Science Monitor !just so no one can bittch about islamic links! on the European women converts. It quotes the head of the French Domestic Intelligence Agency as saying, "The phenomenon is booming, and it worries us.".

Anyone who has an abiding personal relationship with Jesus Christ (a TRUE Christian) would never turn to Islam, or any other religion. False Converts, who don't truly understand Christianity, are looking for something, anything, to fill the void in their life. They may go from religion to religion, never finding fulfillment that can only be found when one understands the truth.

The truth is that we are all sinners, which separates us from a Holy God. The Bible says the wages of sin is death. Jesus', perfect and sinless, died in our place, and his blood covers over our sins. If we accept his free gift of salvation, we can be made righteous in the eyes of God because of His blood. We get to have relationship with God the Father, and spend eternity with Him when we die. To not accept this free gift means eternity separated from God, i.e. Hell.

Anyone who really gets this would never choose eternal separation from God by turning away from Him, and toward another religion. Especially one that, instead of being shown grace and mercy and love, expects that you try to earn your way to "Paradise".

Sorry I don't by it. There might have a some that converted. Yet I think of there are they number is very minium. The links are all Islamic links so of course they are going to say there are converts.
I personally don't know anyone who has converted. I bet most people on YA don't know anyone who has converted or if they do the number is very little.

Islam is a lie from the pit of hell, and that's why Muslims lie so much. There is no proof that Christians turned out in droves and converted to Islam. Osama Bin Laden said he committed the 9-11 terrorist attack because of Islam. He said the hell god of Islam poisoned his soul and made him commit the terrorist act so that he could spend eternity in hell with his Muslim god. Why on earth would Christians want to be with Bin Laden in hell? No. You can't answer that question truthfully. That's because your assumption is a complete lie. Let me be very blunt. Here's an interesting twist. Like you I am not religious, yet the more I see of what religious idealism and philosophy does to actually foster wars, hate and terror, my respect for religious leaders of all faiths is truly coming into question. Religion on all fronts are allowing young people to get what is a dangerous and wrong message on what having a faith should truly be about.

Do you mean there was an actual rate increase or an increase in numbers? What evidence do you have that 911 was a direct cause and what was the mechanism? Maybe a link?

Islam already was somewhat popular among blacks, and now since the intolerant right has taken more control the blacks feel more alienated by society. It' a natural and very human response to the conditions. 9/11 simply accelerated it. Watch - the numbers will level off soon if they haven't already. Thank a liberal.
