One month is on the 20th the next is at the beginning of the month. I hate this so very much!! I have ruined about 6 pairs of underwear by this whole cycle. I will admit I am kind of a beginner. My first period came on september 20, 2006, but this is just not normal. Can someone please tell me what I should do.

This is why I love all the pink and red panties at Victoria's Secret!

Start marking on a calendar when your period starts and stops. Just a little X is enough - you don't need to write anything in case someone else looks at it. It may take a couple of months, but you will probably start seeing a pattern in it. Remember to count actual days in between, don't just go by the date on the calendar, since all month have a different number of days.

It's normal for periods not to be regular for the first year or so.

You just got your period? Then you will be irregular for a while. This is normal. There is nothing you can do for the time being, other than carry tampons/pads with you just in case. If your period is absent for a long time (i.e.: 6 months, a year), speak with your doctor. There may be something else going on. Keep track of your cycle so you can share this with your doctor. If you ever go to the emergency room or doctor, they will expect you to know when your last period was.

Your period will probably be unbalanced as you put it for a while since you've just started. When I got my first period it was May and I didnt get another until August. Now that I've had my periods for a while. You'll learn your body's "cues" as to when your period is gonna start, like cramps, breast tenderness. It takes time to figure all of it out. Until then...black underwear is good...if you get some blood on there it is easily missed!

since you said you are a beginner, its not unusual for "beginners" to have irregular periods. they do begin to have a schedule after a while. if you have extreme pain, infection, clotting or bright red bleeding, i would suggest you see a gynecologist ASAP

There's nothing you can do. When you get a little older, if it is still irregular, maybe you can start taking birth control pills to regulate your cycle.
