If you need a starting point I'd say go to wikipedia, they have a lot of coherent info on it. Russian Dance history is a broad subject (as any other country's folk dance history) and it is difficul to give a reasonably short answer to your question. Maybe you don't mind breaking it down and posting a lot of smaller questions?

Yes, it has a history. But, I am not sure what you want. Try googling History of Russian Dance. You will get a lot of information, including this site: http://www.barynya.com/RussianDance/russian-dance.htm
