why do they ask for ur ethnicity when filling forms?

what's the point of it? in almost every forms, they ask for ur ethnicity. and why do the make statistics based on race, llike, e.g., 30% of the students here r asians, 20% r blacks etc. etc.

it's for census reasons. and to watch out for racism, deficiencies, etc.. for example, if it was found that only 2% of african americans went to college...then we would want to start some sort of program or something to fix that. but if we didn't collect the data, then people with a hidden agenda could say, "well...we don't actually KNOW how many are going. i don't think it's a problem" do you see? i think we collect the data to keep a check on ourselves...to make sure people are being treated equally, and succeeding equally. and if they aren't, we can work on it.

That's a good question. If we are ever to become truly "color blind" to race this should never be on any forms unless it's the doctors. Some ethnicity's have more medical problems in certain areas. Like black people are more susceptible to high blood pressure and that sort, but other than that it shouldn't matter.
