I have done a lot of things in my time, but I have not worked in a department store except a short stint setting up a Wal-Mart many years ago. But, I have done some hiring. I don't know specific questions a department store would ask, but here are some other suggestions.
Smile, but a relaxed smile, not a stiff, fake look. Just don't frown.
If you shake hands, use a firm grip.
Look directly at him when he is talking and when you answer.
"Thank you for calling me" or "thank you for your time."
Dress appropriate. Something simple, professional like, not too short, not too low cut, not glitzy. Go simple and light on the make up.
Show up on time, not too early, and not a minute late.
Put forth a confident attitude, but not smug.
Answer questions as truthful as you can. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know" or "I'm not sure I understand what you are asking", but interviewers don't usually ask trick questions. They are more interested in knowing about your work history, experience, ability, your personality, are you reliable...
Relax, don't talk too fast or too much. The less chit-chat, the less opportunity to say the wrong thing.
Good luck

1. don't be afraid, nervous, shy, twitchy, etc.
2. just gonna ask you simple questions, why do you want to work here, what made you think of Macy's over another store for a job. Don't say " cause I want the discount or its cool ". Say something like...." well Macy's has a better reputation among all the stores out there, and I wanted to be with a winning team ". BS like that goes along way in an interview.
3. Wear nice, clean, conservative clothing, no fancy jewels, no piercings past normal ear rings, no showing tats, no cleavage. All these will be looked down on in an interview.
4. Just be yourself, cause the last thing they want is a robot during the interview then someone else on the sales floor. Be yourself and you'll be okay.
I use to be a human resources mgr and have hired at least 200 people in my day. I give you info from the horses mouth.

I have not applied at Macy's but I have worked in customer service. The employer will be looking to see if you will be dependable; so verbally let them know that they will be able to count on you to be there and be there timely. Also, the employer will want to know if you can get along with them and others because they will have to work with you, so pretend that you are interviewing with a friend so that comfort level comes across lean forward toward the interviewer just a little bit -which shows you are interested in what they are saying and smile a lot. Let them know that no matter what a customer may say, you will be polite because you appreciate it when others treat you politely.
Questions are usually based on if a customer does this or that what would you do and your answers should be formed based on how you would want to be treated...in other words if during your interview you are asked :
"if a customer says to you, you people don't know what you are doing"
My answer would be to say, "I would listen and let the customer vent out his/her problem, obviously they are upset and often if you just listen they feel a lot better and the problem often is resolved by listening. I also would apologize no matter the circumstances and in some instances may ask what I can do for them at this time or ensure them that the matter would be addressed so not to happen again...something like that....but most of the time problems are resolved by listening and empathizing with the customer.
Answers to customer service issues are listen to the customer's complaint carefully and apologize. Always apologize.
A MUST for getting the job is to ASK FOR IT. At the end of the interview you need to recap to the prospective employer that you will be dependable, you will work hard and courteously, and that you really want this job.. ALWAYS ASK "do you think I am the right person for this position, because I really would apreciate the opportunity...then hold your breath....even if you don't get the jobs you first apply for, you do get the experience of interviewing...
Whenever you are told "no" be sure to find out why sometimes they are looking for more experience, or whatever they answer ask them what experience or whatever their answer get them to explain and listen because you will get clues for other interviews.
And always ask God to go before you and to give you favor, keeping in mind though that He knows and wants what is best for us...

The questions that I have been asked often:
Tell me about yourself.
Name your strengths and weaknesses. Hint say you are a perfectionist as your weakness.
Name a situation that you had to deal with an unruly person and how did you handle it. Or tell me what you would do if you had an unruly customer.
do not be nervous. You will do great. Just be yourself and I have felt most are interviewers are nice and they can tell when you are nervous and make it a little more relax. When you walk into the office do not sit down until they sit down. Oh even before that...give the person a FIRM handshake when you are introduced to them and look them straight in the eye. If you have anymore questions. I have tons of advice on interviews and resumes. I have had a lot of classes and been on my fair share of interviews. Good luck and you will be fine.

Well, first of all let me tell you when it comes to Macy's you are walking into something different altogether okay? Unlike many other jobs who tend to focus MOSTLY on your abilities, Macy's focuses ALOT on your personality and LOOKS. Think i am joking? No, i am not. I am telling you this as my sister got a job working for them once and then was on the "hiring" staff. And she told me all about how "tough" it was to get a job there. And let me tell you she had modeling experience and that totally helped her get a job there.
I will tell you this now. Not sure what they are going to ask you but i would be knowledgeable in Macy's company, as well as the products they sell, designers etc.... they will Drug test you, also be VERY PRESENTABLE...wear the absolute LATEST fashion going in there...preferably from THEIR STORE...with a designer label...makeup up to date and "perfect". Hair also latest style and recently "done". Nice accesories. Nails done. Sound petty and too much? Then this isn't the job for you. Macy's is about style and image just as much as it is about quality. They want it to show in their employees when a customer walks into the store as well as when they check out.
Of course, lastly they will be looking at your experience. Hopefully you have some experience in the field of retail and the ability to speak well. Again, your personality is going to be the thing that wins them over ultimately in this interview; your smile your confidence etc... A little experience and everything i mentioned above...and YOU GOT IT!!
You see dear, if you get what i am saying here....you shouldn't be worried about what they are going to ask...it is EVERYTHING else you need to be worried about.

Make sure you're at least 15 minutes early.
Dress professionally.
Be sure to greet every person enthusiastically.
Make sure to go in knowing the answers to:
Your greatest strength
Your greatest weakness
Your career goal
and be ready to answer: Tell us about yourself
Make sure to keep eye contact with your interviewer.
Be calm, take a moment to think about the question and then answer.
Don't rush, don't lie, and try to be interested and enthusiastic.
At the end, be sure to thank them for the interview and tell them that you are very interested in the position after talking with them today.
Good LUCK!!!

They usually ask you to tell them a little about yourself.
Some other questions:
1. Why do you want this job
2. What can you bring to this position
3. Where do you expect to be in 5 years
4. Are you a team player - give examples
5. What are your strengths and weaknesses - obviously never tell them you are lazy and hate hard work. Just laugh and say something like "I work too hard". That will get them distracted and off the subject.

Why do you want this job?
What positive qualities could you bring to this company?
Name one of your strengths and one of your weakness.
(For the weakness one, don't actually name a true weakness, like "Always late." Say something like, "Work too much," "Too trusting," etc.)
