How do ISPs know you downloaded a copyrighted material? Do they use your IP address to track you? There are programs out there that can help you to hide your IP address while online but I dont know if they can prevent your ISP from knowing what you downloaded. How can I download files/torrents(copyrighted n uncopyrighted) without my ISP knowing?

ISP is not bothered about it, you can use proxy, but only few proxy are anonymous, so first check whether whatismyip.com still reports correct IP address , if that is the case try using another proxy

ISP's rarely care what you are downloading. Even if you are pirating windows they aren't going to jump into a lawsuit with microsoft.
