Tightlining is a method of applying eyeliner. It's not exactly easy learning it, but it makes your eyes look MUCH brighter, without the obvious harsh line that eyeliner can impart on your eyes. Here's the essence of it: It's basically lining your eyes RIGHT on the lashline, not above it, so the lashes look thicker and the eyes look subtly brighter.
Get a mirror and lean in close. Pull up your upper eyelid so you can see the underside of your top lashes. You can see the white/pink membrane where the lashes sprout from. This is where you'll be lining.
With a soft eyeliner or liquid eyeliner, dot between the lashes and/or line the lashline on the membrane, as close to the lashes as you can get. Let dry.
Voila! Your eyes will look brighter, without the harsh black line that people can see! (Your lashes hide the line!)

Are you talking about top eyeliner or bottom? Stick or liquid?
I use both.... with liquid, I use the regular ol' Maybelline or Revlon black liquid liner that comes in a little triangular shaped bottle. It's inexpensive and works great.
As for stick eyeliner, same thing. I've used $25 Dior eyeliners, and 99cent Wet 'n Wild eyeliners and have had success with both.
When you put it on, remember, the first place you touch your eyelid will be where the eyeliner goes on more heavily. For that reason, I always start (on the top) in the middle of my eye and work outwards, then go to the inner part and fill it in. That way less goes on the inner part, and the right "look" can be achieved.
Good luck!

I use a stick eyeliner pencil made by Avon. It doesn't need to be sharpened as one just merely twists the pencil to make the charcoal part come out longer when needed. It also stays on for a fair amount of time.

lancome has amazing eyeliner..it stays on and doesnt smear during the day. they also have waterproof that have smudgers on one end, so if you dont want such a dramatic liner, you can use the eraser to control the thickness. OR you can apply liner to the inside of your upper lid by lifting ur lashes just a bit..this makes a liner w/o it being so harsh. good luck =]
oh and if you get non-waterproof liner, esp. liquid dont use it on the bottom lid. only on the top.

I used eye liner from Avon. It comes in a little glass jar and a brush that comes to a point. You want to start near the middle of your lash line and go towards the outer part of your eye. If you go straight across from inner to outer eye you risk looking unatural. You want it to make your eyes stand out more..not look like a racoon.
