Oh Lordy.
I will try to give you a balanced answer since I am from the South and live in the South but lived away for my last two years oh high schoo and for my B.A. and M.B.A. degrees.
I think far too many people here are racist but have seen just as many racist people from other parts of the country. I think that things are getting better but that it will take awhile.
I personally HATE, HATE, HATE the confederate flag and think it is a huge joke and symbol of hatred and I put it right up there with the swastika. I think anyone who flies it is a 1st class moron. I think it should stay in the history books where it belongs.
I have never known anyone openly admit to being in the KKK and those people are also idiots.
I live in Tennesse and despite the Scopes trial my biology teacher taught us Evolution and I think it is a good concept.
There are also many cool and diverse people in the South, and if you aren't going to do anything but pigeonhole us, then you are being just as discriminatory as you accuse us of being.

Are you just an asshole or are you truly ignorant?
My opinion is that you are an idiot.
I was raised in the South and I ONLY see the Confederate flag as an icon of history, but definitely do not worship it or fly it out my bedroom window.
I do not discriminate and am not racist.
The KKK is ridiculous and I would guess that only 0.00001% of the South's population is actually IN the KKK.
Lastly, the evolution/creation debate occurs all across the nation and the world- not just in the South. And BY THE WAY, all the schools I ever attended in the South taught me EVOLUTION.
so, screw you......
p.s. Do people think you are idiotic everywhere you go? Do you have friends? Are you trying to make yourself feel better by putting people down? Pathetic.

What the ......? Are you living in the south? I do, and very rarely do you see the confederate flag, I haven't seen the KKK in the last 20 years, our religious beliefs are our beliefs....What discrimination? Do you even know what you're talking about? Don't tell me that you're still looking at that footage of the 60's? I've lived all over this country and people are biased if they're going to be biased. Like you and your silly uninformed question.

saying whats wrong with the south is like saying whats wrong with yankees!, look yes to several people the flag is a bad bad bad thing, but to most southerners it stands for our past, we don't automatically attach slavery and the KKK to it, only people who do not live or have never been in the south do that. and as far as your Taliban thing goes look to Montana, and other northern states! they are by far more militia groups and so called " freedom fighters" who have to live in their compounds, we will never win any war against anyone as long as we are fighting amongst ourselves.

Our democracy is broken, so the only way to beat those scum is to declare all neo-Confederate groups terrorist organizations and possibly start another civil war.
I hate Southern culture. I hate how they smile and laugh about beating their kids, I hate how they threaten to beat up everyone who disagrees with them, I hate how addicted to guns they are, I hate their militia-style police...the list goes on and on. The only diversity in the South is in Louisiana.

I live in "The South". This post, um, tactless much? What you mentioned is completely irrelevant and has no correlation to most people living in "The South."
