I think these people just don't understand how an optimist thinks. Optimists generally just want to believe/think the best of things. They are possibly intimidated by your optimistic thinking, however, you may bring out the optimism in uncalled for situations.
For example It is probably a good time to tone down the optimism if a friend just got out of a serious relationship, be supportive but depending on the friend she may not want to hear that she will find somebody new tomorrow. Just work to boost her spirit and use your optimism in a perky way.
More than likely people say you are not always being authentic because you take your optimism too far. You don't want to sound like some dumb blonde from Clueless who 'just knows that everything will be all right.' Just step back sometimes and think if your optimistic answer seems right for the situation you are in, if not then maybe just keep your mouth shut until you think up a more appropriate comment.

An optimist always expects the best outcome in any situation. He looks for something good in everything and in everyone. He believes that everything will turn out all right if he just does the right thing. He is considered by some to be naive. Oftentimes the optimist loses his optimistic outlook when bad things happen to him or to the people he loves--he has difficulty dealing with setbacks because he is unprepared to deal with them.

A person whose thinking is authentic is a realist. He is able to see both sides of the coin. He is able to see the best and the worst in people, and he knows that despite his best efforts things can still go awry. He still keeps trying though, because he knows that if he doesn't, nothing good will come his way. These are probably the most stable people because they think ahead in any situation and are not surprised when things don't always go their way. They usually can come up with a back-up plan.

Finally, you have the pessimist. This person expects nothing good to happen and it usually doesn't. They, too, are never surprised by failure, but they are generally unhappy people.

It's best to find a middle ground and just do your best.

The term 'authentic' is value loaded. They are trying to make you conform to their thinking.

Resent experiments into luck show that 'luck' does not exist, it is a matter of focus. and those who who felt lucky were people with an optimistic outlook.

However I would get practical back up to your optimism. IE if you think you will be a millionaire then start moving that way.
