Well even the liars have to tell the truth sometimes, especially if they believe it to be more advantageous to themselves.

I do understand the logical contradiction you are pointing out.... all I want to register is the reality that there is no one who either lies or tells the truth consistently all the time..... except perhaps the mentally deranged ones.

He would probably have to be telling the truth, because everyone lies, unless this is a trick question or something. Everyone lies about something even if the do it unintentionally. Someone could say that they drank 3 cups of water one day, and they really only drank 2 and 3/4 cups. If you get right down to it, you have to decide what a lie really is.

He is probably telling the truth. Just because he lies doesn't mean that everything that comes from his mouth is a lie.
Keep in mind that if he says he lies then it is very easy for him to prove himself right. Then he could just say well I told you that I lied.
Stay clear of people who define themselves by bad traits that they are in direct control of.

He's telling the truth. Everyone has lied at one time or another.

Depends:

I sometimes lie- truth

I always lie- false (lie)
(the person sometimes lies, but has at least one instance of telling the truth, the current one.)

He's most likely telling the truth because most people care about their image in front of others and wouldn't say something to discredit themselves unless it were true.

that is what we like to call a paradox.

If he is telling the truth, then he is telling a lie, but if he is lying, then he is telling the truth, and then, in turn lying.

but in the real world, this means that he lies SOME TIMES not all the time, so who knows.

Dear wishagain,
The question presupposes that the person knows himself well enough to know the difference between the two. Semantically, it might be interesting to tackle this question but logically and philosophically it begs another question: does he know himself. medically, he might be classified as a schizophrenic.
