OK. First, I did not say I did it, just wanted your opinions. Food for thought--- what if the drink was sugar free (liver concern gone), and the mother did not breastfeed for at least 4 hours after drinking it? Anyone know how long it takes for a body to metabolize the drink? And why did this question get slammed more than questions about drinking alcohol while breastfeeding? Is caffeine worse than alcohol?

You can safely consume up 300mg of caffeine a day WHILE pregnant. I see no problem with drinking a red bull while breastfeeding. Red Bull has 80mg of caffeine per can.

I would think artificial sweeteners would be bad for the baby, even more so than the regular. Caffeine can stay in the system for up to 12 hours. Remember when you're breastfeeding anything can be excreted through your breastmilk. Do you want your baby to be hyped up on caffeine? I think those little suckers have plenty of energy to keep mommy up as-is ;) Alcohol is bad as well, though probably worse, but moms who breastfeed should be careful what they are passing on to their baby whether an alcoholic or highly caffeinated beverage. Ask your doctor about this, I think it would be interesting to get a medical opinion.

Well I don't think it's necessarily that caffeine itself is bad and evil (I drink it in moderation during pregnancy and breastfeeding), it's just that energy drinks like Red Bull give you alot at once, at that's alot for a baby to handle. I can't imagine it would be good for their heart and nervous system. I've heard that energy drinks can be as strong as several cups of coffee. Personally, I like to drink instant coffee, because you can easily make it a little weaker than normal, and it contains a little less caffeine than drip coffee. The key is moderation... as long as a woman is careful to keep caffeine to a minimum (whenever she needs a little boost), then everything should be fine).

i would think sugar is better than artificial sweeteners. I would worry more about the red dye and perhaps some of the herbs in it. You can drink it if you want, but mostly you should just watch and see if your baby has a reaction, such as change in bowels, rashes, fussiness or gassiness. No need to wait four hours (that's a long time to go without nursing.)
i drink coffee daily while breastfeeding. just not more than 2 cups (which is still around 300 mg of caffeine!-) i did cut it out for a while, but when i realized my son wasn't going to EVER sleep,i needed something to keep me awake! lol
Sometimes i even have a glass of red wine.

when you drink a red bull the effects it has is: it opens the valves in your heart and makes your heart beat faster and pump more blood which is what gives you the "rush" and awake feeling...now when your heart is pumping that fast and for a long period of time it can lead to a heart attack...now lets think for a moment about the baby's heart on a redbull....WOW...kinda scarey...i think id rather put mountain dew in their bottle...i think that you shouldn't be drinking this at all if your breastfeeding...if you can't find a way to put the redbull down and not drink until your done then breastfeeding is not for you...four hours is not a long enough time to rid your body because whatever food you are intaking it is turning it into milk after your body get nutrients....i pitty the baby on red bull milk...

pink Bull will save you up. If tiredness isn't an issue do not drink it. do no longer DRINK earlier gymnasium A co-worker of mine began having heart themes from the stuff and become informed to quit ingesting it. that is an power drink. So in case you already drink it, try it earlier a kind and word if it will be an element of a try day habitual. do no longer look ahead to a try day to attempt.

I think that a breastfeeding mother should not eat anything real spicy or consume caffeine, alcohol or any drugs unless prescribed by a doctor. Four hours is not enough time for your system to wash it out. Please don't smoke either.

read the label. Does it not have a warning on the side? Now would you hand the baby a bottle filled with this stuff? no. If you listened to your doc at all you would know that the baby will get whatever the mom had through the breat milk. Thats why its not a good idea. Talk to your doc. I hope he smacks you for asking stupid questions.
