I've lived here for a year. Before me, a dog lived here for a year. I don't know beyond 2 years ago...

It's doing it to mark it's territory to other neighborhood cats - even if you do not have a pet. It's to tell the other cats that your place is it's territory.

In addition to spraying 'Boundary' around the site...

Get a dog. They will bark and frightened the cat from it's spot. (This is what ultimately worked for us - and no more kitty pooh in my garden either!) I'm not suggestion letting the dog do any actual damage to the cat!

O.K. so you may not want a dog.....

You may want to get a motion detector of some sort. There are motion sensor Halloween decorations that would scare the cat with sound as it passes by. Neighbors may snicker but it's better than cat urine! You could also get a motion activated sprinkler. Inexpensive and available at the hardware DIY stores. Set it at night and disable in the a.m. - otherwise you may no longer get your mail!

In the summer you can try planting pots of Rue - a pretty little leafed herb that cats do not like. It's available in most garden centres.

There is a product in pet stores called Boundary. If you spray it on the door it should keep the cat away. A more drastic step would be granulated fox urine (you can't smell it) which is available from gardening supply stores. The cat may smell a former cat (have you lived there long?) or, if he is a new cat to the neighborhood, he's just announcing his presence loud and clear.

Spray TKO cleaner up the walk and on your door daily. Do it soon. The longer this goes on, the worse it will get. Cats hate the smell of this stuff so it may take a couple times as this is routine for the cat, but it will eventually stop. The cat is likely marking territory. Best of luck!

My grandfather had this problem with two small evergreens in his yard. The cat was spraying it so much that one tree died and the other was going downhill fast.

Granddaddy put some electrical wire around the tree and hooked it up to a car battery.

When the cat came to pee..... You got it, ZAP!

Never had a problem with the cat again, and saved his tree. Grandaddy said he could hear the yowling in his backyard. The cat lived, but it wouldn't come within 20 feet of Grandaddy's yard again.
