Alright, I don't get the format of the tourney. I know each Division (Hockey East, Atlantic Hockey, CCHA etc) play their own tournaments to determine a champion....however, what happens from there? Who qualifies for the four regional playoffs? I know that the four regional winners go on to play in the Frozen Four...then the Championship...but I'm at a loss trying to figure out the four teams that qualify for the four regionals?

16 teams get in, each placed in one of four regionals. The champions of the six leagues (WCHA, CCHA, ECACHL, Hockey East, CHA, and Atlantic Hockey) through their tournaments get automatic bids; the remaining ten bids go to the top 10 teams who are not automatic qualifiers via the Pairwise Ratings (PWR) system.

Teams are also seeded by their PWR ratings, avoiding interconference matchups as much as possible. Host schools for the regionals play in their regional if they qualify for the tournament. The top team in the country is placed as the #1 seed in the regional closest to them geographically, then the second best team is placed as #1 seed in the region closest to them, etc. Right now, the top 4 teams are Minnesota, Notre Dame, New Hampshire, and St. Cloud State. Each regional produces one team for the Frozen Four.
