A trick to use to sort fractions is cross-multiply. Another trick would be to convert them to decimals then compare the decimals.

On cross-multiplying, you start with the numerator (top number) of the first fraction and multiply with the denominator (bottom number) of the other fraction. The result goes with the fraction whose numerator you used. So if you multiply the 7 from 7/10 with the 8 from 5/8, you get 56. Then if you multiply the 5 from 5/8 with the 10 of 7/10 you get 50. So 7/10 is larger than 5/8. So lets compare 7/10 with 3/4. Seven (from 7/10) times four (from 3/4) is 28. Three (from 3/4) times ten (from 7/10) is 30. So we just proved that 3/4 is larger than 7/10. So, 5/8, 7/10, 3/4.

Or, if you want to do it with decimals, dividing 7 by 10 gives 0.7. Dividing 5 by 8 gives 0.625. So that also proves that 7/10 is larger than 5/8. Then you can find out that 3/4 is 0.75. So for the first set, it is 5/8 (0.625), 7/10 (0.7), 3/4 (0.75).

You can use the above to check things for yourself. The second set is correct.

No, the correct order is 5/8; 7/10; 3/4; 4/5; 4/4; 5/4

When doing these problems, and I'm guessing when you study them... you need to find the lowest common denominator being fourty. whatever you multiply the bottom to equal your LCD, you multiply the top number also. Then you can compare the top numbers more easily.

Another way to help if your nubmers are too strange or you are i a rush is to divide them on yoru calculator. This way you would see that 5/8 = 0.625 and is lower than 7/10 = 0.7

Hope I helped.

The easiest way to do this, is to convert them into decimals so you can compare the numbers.
So, 5/8 is 0.625, 3/4 is 0.75, 7/10 is 0.7, 4/5 is 0.8, 5/4 is 1.25 and 4/4 is 1.0.
The order from lowest to highest is 5/8, 7/10, 3/4, 4/5, 4/4 and 5/4.
