I've been having really bad dreams at least one a week and I will end up sleeping like 8 hours on those nights but when I wake up I feel like I got very little rest. The last one I got (last night) was a school shotting and most of the others ive gotten have been about equally as vilent but this was the first one that i can completly remember and could see people as they died. I am mainly just looking for a way to make them less frequent or less intense, because most the time i wake up sweating feeling as if I am about to scream.

The only thing i eat/ drink before bed is water and that is because i keep a bottle of it near my bed at alll times so if i wake up thirsty it is there,I also cant drink milk as it makes me sick.

First of all, instead of checking your diet before bed, check your head! What are you watching on tv, reading, listening to on the radio, or thinking about before you shut down for the evening. This plays a role in what's going on in your head. Before you close your eyes to go to sleep, clear your mind. Think of something pleasant...a good memory, a positive accomplishment during the day, your...HAPPY PLACE, if you will. Having said that, here are a couple of methods.

Take control of your dreams. Remember that your mind is your own domain, and you are, or should be, master of it. Here's how to do it. Take the last nightmare you had. As you are going to sleep, go back to that dream. Confront whatever your demons are in the dream. In this case, I would say the shooters. Remember, physical rules do not apply in the dream world, so make yourself whatever you want. Set yourself to be bulletproof, walk or run directly at the gunman, and take the weapon from him. What you do from here is up to you, but be creative!

It is important to remember that our nightmares can be a representation of some demon we need to face, but it may not manifest itself in your mind that way. Doesn't matter. Realize when you are dreaming that you are in control, it's your realm, and directly confront whatever demon is in the dream.

There is also a slightly different approach. Go to sleep one night and imagine all the foes, demons, or whatever you have had since you started with the nightmares. Imagine/dream yourself calling a meeting with them. You are the employer, they are the employees. Tell them directly and firmly in a setting of your choosing that they are through in your dreams and they are all fired. Sounds silly? Worked for me.

In either of the approaches above, there is one important thing. Display no fear! You are in control and there is no reason to be afraid.

It may work, it may not, but you lose nothing by trying. But, in order for it to work, you must BELIEVE it will work. There is so much about the human mind we do not know...so many possibilities still undiscovered. In your dreams, your mind is your power, so use it and use it well.

Good luck and sweet dreams!

Perk is right. They're your dreams. You should be in control of them. Practice lucid dreaming (read Carlos Casteneda "The Art of Dreaming"
