Over the weekend, I went to a Winery that was giving away Canna Lilly bulbs. I got 3 or 4 but don't know what to do from here. I'm not a plant person but I love the way these flowers look so I had to have them. I'd like to buy a big pot to plant them in but not sure if they'd be better in the ground, if so I can just plant them in my backyard. How do I get started? Its been a few days so I'm not even sure if still good.

They should be fine:) I have to dig mine up every fall and let them dry out and then re-plant in Springtime...you must be in a warmer climate/area than I am. They are pretty easy to take care of. Just dig a hole about 5" deep and plant them! I've always put mine in the ground. Since they get pretty tall, if you have a fence or something you can plant them in front of, it will help to keep them from falling over, or you can stake them if they start to fall. They like full sun, and don't over water them when you first plant them, or the bulb will rot. They make a great "back drop" for shorter plants in front of them. I swear by Miracle Gro every so often. If you do a "Search" for them, I'm sure you can find more info...I'm not sure about planting them in pots. Hope this helps you some:)
Good Luck!!

Canas are easy to care for ,since they do not need much attention after planting a little care in preperation is worth while, each hole should be at least 6" square & equally deep, mix in good compost into the soil ,place each canna tuber in an individual hole ,cover with soil & firm down slightly, water gently till soil has settled.Cannas make a colourful, trouble free display, after the bloom has faded cut back the stalk to about 5'' above ground level, usually by this time new shoots already appear around this stem ,pretty soon each will develope into a clump, they can be potted in a roomy pot ,need staking as they will have no support of other close plants,i think they are best in the ground ,especially somewhere at the back of a flowering bed,

First off, you don't want to plant Lily bulbs in the winter cold. So it is best to plant them indoors in a warm slightly humid atmosphere. The name of the whole bulb is a tuber. Tubers usually have more than one "head" with a small point at the top of them. You should make a cutting so that each piece is about the length of your middle finger. If the piece isn't that long, don't cut it. Next, you want to let the cutting dry out so that you eventually see the starch on them harden. When you see that hardening, then it is ready to plant. Plant the tuber so that the cutting is towards the bottom, and the "head's" tip is towards the top. Water the plant every other day, but don't drown it. You should see progress in less than 2 weeks. When the weather is warmer, you can transplant your Cannas outside. One major plus about Cannas is that they are perennial plants, meaning if you plant them once, they will constantly grow back each year. (As long as you don't dig or pull them up !)

it particularly is not a real bulb liket maximum lillies have. in simple terms dig up a great bite and positioned them in a extensive pot of moist dirt. positioned them in a dismal cool place. Trim the stalk off in spite of the dirt.
