Most new models come out in the fall, however, EVERY manufacturer has early releases throughout the year.
The rule of thumb is if it is released after Jan. 1st, it is a 'next year' model.
Many manufacturers already have 2008's out.
Ford, for example, has already released 2008 Escapes & Super Duty Trucks. Their '08 Taurus is set to release in the late spring, & the '08 Taurus X in the late summer.
2008 Focus (redesign) will also be an early release.
If the manufacturer isn't doing any major changes, then the normal release dates are in the fall.

We started making the 2008 Ford Super Duty the last week of Dec in 2006. Normally, we have model change over in July, so we can make a bunch for the dealers to have on the lot when they come out in Sept or there abouts.

Not sure exactly, but I have already seen a few 2008 models at our local Dodge dealer. It used to be that you could determine the model year by the manufacturing date. Anything built in May would be the next year's model. (For example, if it was made in May 1998 then it would most likely be a 1999 model.) Lately it seems like they come out earlier and earlier.

Usually they come out about 6 months before the next calendar year. But there are exceptions like I see the new ford heavy duty truck for 08 is coming out this year.
