It depends
Usually there are two polygon bases and a rectangular base for each side of polygons.
most people think that prisms are rectangular because they always thinks of cube like shapes. However there are prisms that have other shapes for sides. These look like cubes except they have other shapes on two bases.
For example, a triangular prism has 2 triangular and 3 rectangular bases. (it looks like a pole with a triangle for a base and a triangle for a the top.)
There are many more different kinds of prisms. A prism can have any polygon as bases.
Good luck

the bases of the prism can be any polyhedron
the joining faces( the lateral faces) are parallelograms. If the prism is right the joining faces are rectangular and , consequently, perpendicular to the base faces.
note: a cylinder is not a prism.

The ones studied in high school are rectangles. That happens when the top is directly above the base. If the top is shifted (without turning), the sides become parallelograms.

There are many different types of prisms. You can have rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, circular prisms (aka cylinders), etc...
