If you created your own pool by digging a hole/spreading your own concrete, is there some kind of external filter that you could buy and put on the "pool" youself without it being built in? How much would it cost? Also, I assume most people get a pool filled at the beginning of summer, and leave the water in there with a filter til the end of summer, then drain the water at the end of the summer (when they will not be using it anymore) So how could you drain such a man-made pool?

Most pools are filtered external to the pool anyway.

The water is pumped from the pool, through the filter, and back into the pool.

You could do the same thing, put a hose in the water for intake and one for outflow, the main problem would be debris clogging your intake hose. So you'd have to clean that out regularly.

For draining, you would simply pump the water out of the pool, do it slowly over the course of a few days and it should be able to simply be absorbed into the ground.
