Here's a 4 way side by side comparison of all the mid sized pick ups :
http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/sporttrac/compare/details/?vehicles=18836|19788|20841|18464
I included the Sport Trac (Ford) & the Dakota Quad cab (Dodge) for comparison sake.
I don't know, I'd look at the Ford if I were you, It's the only one with standard; 4 wheel disc breaks, Stability Control, Rollover Sensor & Independant Rear Suspension. That's gotta be safer & easier to handle the road. Looks like it's quite a bit roomier inside too.
In any case please read this article about American vehicles & your economy before you support Japan:

Get it. The media blew the hype of the remembers to products. The Colorado is trash (underpowered 5 cyl and sucks the daylights out of gas.) look up a 2006 Tacoma that has an analogous thoughts as your Colorado (do not forget approximately to contain physique type). I particularly have a 2004 Tacoma group Cab, 4 wheelpersistent with the two TRD and SR5 applications. It has ninety,000 miles on it and is paid for. The nada retail is almost $19000, and it replace into no extra advantageous than $30000 new (I paintings at a toyota broker.) it particularly is a 6 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous truck and it in basic terms lost $11000 in fee! My ingredient: given this occasion, they might't be junk, opposite to established conception. detect a 6 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous chevy properly worth $19k. you won't manage to. whether you probably did, the Tacoma is considered a "compact truck". the only Chevy even on the threshold of this selection may well be an entire-length. might you pay a very good bite of replace for a bite of junk? of path not. stay removed from GM, nevertheless. You already pay taxes to the government each and each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and now you're giving the government much extra by paying for for one among its products. (the government owns 60% of GM). once you're at it, ask all of us you already know that drives a Chevy why the government had to grant them funds to stay alive. If I keep in mind properly, Toyota in no way did. Then ask your self: it particularly is particularly the bigger piece of junk?

While everyone here is pumping Toyota just because its Toyota or such, I think it'd be better if we broke this down a little by what you want to do and what meets technical requirements for actually being better.
The Tacoma has a 236 horsepower V6, but it does make 266 pounds-feet of torque compared to the Colorado's 242 pounds feet. Expect better acceleration both under towing and without loads in the Tacoma.
EPA estimates show the Top level Tacoma 4x4 getting 16 miles to a gallon in the city, 20 on the highway. This is where the Colorado actually shines: it has 2 mpg better highway mileage according to the EPA. And this is the year apparently when they have improved the methods of testing for gas mileage, as in they have improved the accuracy. So expect the Colorado to do slightly better on the highway.
Another area where Colorado shines is towing capacity: it can do 4000 pounds compared to the Tacomas 3500 pounds. However, do not expect either to be a towing beast, at best a boat or a light trailer on these midsizes.
As to how well they manage those loads, both are using front discs and rear drums, but Toyota does have a brake assist for you.
To personal comfort, expect the Toyota interior to last longer than the GM interior, which has received a few chops for its shoddy quality. Also, rear seat room in the Colorado is lacking, where as the Tacoma is at least somewhat comfortable back there. Front seat room is the Tacoma's strong suit, where as its been called narrow in the Colorado.
Off Road performance is far better in the Tacoma: it has at least 9.4 inches of ground clearance to Colorado's 8.7, and its ramp breakover, approach and departure angles are all FAR superior. It has a better low-range transfer case for it as well.
As to finances: I cannot speak for which is the better deal, GM is just trying to sell anything right now so I'm sure you could pick up a good deal, where as Toyota commands a premium for its quality reputation but is not overly expensive. I'd expect the best price on a Colorado, but it may be a "you get what you pay for" kind of deal.
So my take on the best one: if you need the best work truck you can get (which leaves me wondering why you want a midsize), I'd get the Colorado UNLESS you need off road capability over straight towing capacity. If you need to just get good gas mileage and go from there, again its the Colorado.
But for all else, the Tacoma is the winner. Its likely to hold its exterior together better than the Colorado, and I know the interior quality has received some praise. Also, rear seat room is better.

Once you test drive the toyota is clearly going to be the better buy the Chevy Colorado is cramped and basically fells like driving a Cavalier with a bed. the toyota is a bit bigger and drives like a truck. you might end up paying a little more for the Toyota but when it comes to resale value the toyota is going to give you more money than the chevy just pick up any classified ad and look at the prices of used tacomas versus used colorados

toyota tacoma all the way. i owned a 1992 chevy s-10, (older version of the colorado) and after 112,000 miles it started to break down. I now have a Toyota tacoma (1998) with 202,351 miles and nothing to say about breakdowns, most reliable vehicle i have ever owned. after you figure in the cost of repairs, the extra cost up front will save you money in the long haul. toyota all the way!

My friend has a Colorado and it has been good and reliable. He uses it for work and he is very happy with it. He recommends it. And it is better looking than a Tacoma, but this is a matter of opinions.

you're better off with the toyota, they last longer and are worth every penny compared to GM vehicles. Toyota also has alot of factory 'aftermarket' parts to make it as you want it and are more reliable and cheaper in the long run.
