amount of memory
combo DVD CD-rw
wireless card and type like 802.g ect...
Ability to run Vista if it's loaded with Xp instead...
Speed and type of processor...
Hard drive size
number of USB ports ( at least 2, 3 is better)

finally what you plan to do with it...

Edit & Play videos DVD - you will need larger harddrive for editing and Video in/out and/or fire wire connection
Larger screen size

Music editing & playing - smaller hard drive, less video demand no fire wire

Video Games - moderate hard drive size, better video processing ATI or Nvidia

CPU - Dual Core Intel is the fastest, AMD is a good choice because of dollar/performance.

RAM - at least 2GB

Hard Drive - 1st SATA with 80GB more is better
2nd IDE with 80GB more is better

DVD/CD Burner Do not buy a READ Only or CD only device

Graphic Card is better than On Board Graphics - means a chip and CPU intensive.

Installed Wireless and Ethernet

USB and IEE ports

Windows XP Pro or VISTA

Everything else is Nice to Have!

Get the biggest display you can. Make sure it has a processor that fully meats your current needs.

Remember, the following parts are easily upgradable in the future:
1) Memory
2) Disk Space
3) CD/DVD device

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to play graphic intense games then by a top-of-the-line laptop. If all you want to do is get internet and do some business type stuff on it then get a cheap one. Make sure the type you get can be upgraded later on.

I beleive you may get carry of character gadgets for incredibly some languages from microsoft. as for the drives......in case you purchase a sparkling one it could have a minimum of a cd-romchronic however the floppy you will in all probability choose a USB exterior floppy. this could nicely be achronic it extremely is self contained and connects on your pc with a USB cable. and the courses could desire to have an option to place in on your community launguage
