Everything works fine it's just not as good as 20 years ago. So, i'm considering asking my doctor for some but, what I want to know is when you take it, do you have a constant erection or does it come and go? Also, how long does it last?

Hi, Fireman.

Yes, I use Viagra on a regular basis, and for the same reasons you state.

I got acquainted with Viagra when it first became available. I was in my early 50s, and I just told the doctor that my wife and I had always enjoyed great sex, and that I was still quite capable of producing an erection, but that if possible, I wanted to continue enjoying that quality of sex that I had when I was younger.

The doctor understood perfectly. It wasn't like I had to give him some big sob story.

OK, here's the net effect. It takes your body about 30 minutes minimum to "uptake" the drug. Ideally, you should wait about 45 min to 1 hour for it to really take full effect.

Viagra just enhances the ability of the penis' soft tissue to absorb and retain the blood; hence, a real quality erection. That said, it works "naturally" in that you NEED some sort of arousal factor. That means you either have to feel "horny" or you need visual or physical stimulation. Viagra basically "enhances" your erection reaction. The erection comes on big and strong. You could just about go around the house looking for loose nails.

But...because Viagra works "naturally," if there is any loss of arousal (some annoying interruption, for example) your erection will flag just as it normally would. But when you return to the action, it'll pop right back into action.

I find that Viagra stays active in my system for as long as 18-24 hours. Some would disagree with that, but let me give you an example.

Let's say I take a pill about 6 PM and then we shower together and have sex within 45 min to an hour. Great erection, great sex. Even after ejaculation, I usually find that I'm maintaining a nice erection, when normally you tend to lose some rigidity at that point.

If I get up the next morning and decide to enjoy a little solo activity, I can tell the difference between a normal erection and a Viagra-enhanced erection.

That help you out?

I've taken Viagra and Cialis as samples from my urologist due to prostate surgery. They all worked for me, but there were side effects. My sinuses get badly clogged and it was difficult to breathe. A decongestant relieved the sinus problem, but decongestants also may cause a problem in getting and maintaining an erection for some men. I also got headaches, but they weren't too bad.

This medication simply increases the chemicals that come from the brain during sexual arousal. It doesn't produce an erection per se. You have to be sexually aroused for it to work. An erection is supposed to last for as long as you want it to (if it works for you). After climax, the erection goes away.

You should get checked out by a urologist to make sure that everything is working and that your plumbing is clear. You may be suffering from a drop in testosterone levels which can be corrected (although, again, not without some side effects in some people). If everything is OK, and testosterone is not indicated, get some Viagra/Cialis samples from the doctor to try. If they work, know that they cost a small fortune to use on a regular basis. Maybe your medical plan will cover them.

By the way, avoid those Internet prescription offers. There's no telling where they came from and whether they have any medication in them at all.

Good luck.
