Based on the terrible performance of front loading clothes washers at laundromats, it would be hard to convince me to buy one for use at home. Is there a significant difference in performance and features with the front loading washers they sell for use at home (non-commerical)?

Hi, I have a front loader made by Whirlpool. They use less water, so less detergent must be used. It's a great machine when it works. In the past 3 years, it has broken down 3 times. It's the digital control panel that dies. I'm running out of warranty. So, if you buy one, get a reliable brand like Maytag and all the extended warranties you can. I think the estimated cost of the control panel is 250 dollars. Most experts agree that all washing machines will clean clothes effectively these days. I would have purchased a top loader for all the trouble. Once it took the service men 3 weeks to show up. A real bummer. Have a great day and choose wisely.

HI, I have a front loader washer at home and I would not swap it for the world the clothes come out cleaner and you use less water (good for the enviroment) The washers you get at laundry matts are designed to wash they don't have the features of home ones, plus you have to take into account that they are used by more people then your average home washing machine, and not maintained hygenically.

The cleanliness of the clothes depends also on what washing detergent you use and the pre wash care you give to the clothes (ie treating stains, soaking clothes)

With front loaders at home some models offer pre soak and delayed wash starts for your clothes you can also change the temprature on the wash cycle as well.

As I said in the begging I would rather a front loader at home then in the laundrymats.

Yes they certainly work better than those laundrymat washers, and they are constantly improving them as we speak, they are now designing those washers with dry clean features etc, I would need a book to mention all the new features they are coming out with that will aid in getting your clothes clean, and guess what front loading machines are gentler on your clothes as well. Good Luck !
