probably the best thing is that it has failed to work at every attempt.

the liberal interventionist state has been proven that an economic system controlled by the state is unworkable and breeds corruption and the abuse of power.

Gee that sort of sounds like the American congress of today.

While I think that Libertarian Socialism (essentially Anarchism) is an ideal political philosophy, I realize that it can not work in reality other than in a small communal setting.

That being said, Socialism may, in theory, have good basic ideas. But they are probably best incorporated in other forms. History has proven that Socialism is generally a flawed system, primarily with regards to individual rights. Though many democrats seem to like the socialist ideas which give them welfare and other such government assistance programs that are abused by many who don't work and choose to live off the government. These programs are largely paid for by the working class, exactly that which socialism is supposed to appeal to, actually receives very little benefit from such a system. The rich and those in power are unaffected and stay in their positions.
Greed, power and corruption always destroy, and this has proven to be particularly true in socialist societies.

I just erased a long statement when I realized that I was equating "socialism" with the hybrid capitalist/socialist Western European states. Pure socialism resembles what we saw in Soviet Russia and China.
Capitalism isn't perfect but I'd rather have freedom (economic freedom) than the heavy thumb of the government controlling my money. The Western European hybrid-types don't sound all that bad but they're so much smaller than the US, population-wise. If we could emulate only one thing from them, I'd have to say better health care for those that can't afford it or get it from their jobs. Remember that small businesses employ most of the people in the US and they rarely offer health insurance.
We're approaching 60 million people without health insurance, not to mention people who incur huge debt when their private, for-profit insurance provider denies coverage for certain things. That's our next greatest economic and social crisis right there.

Unfortunately... the greed of the leadership has always caused socialist societies to collapse.

And.. if a person has no incentive to excel at work, they won't ,so the average worker's productivity is lower.

That combination (greed and laziness) is what caused the collapse of the soviet union.

IF the system as run properly... with fair leaders and people who didn't get lazy, it would be better than capitalism. Note that the more socialistic the US gets, the higher tax rates get and the more social problems we see.

Socialism plus the lack of morality will cause the collapse of the US.

No Socialist system has ever survived the test of time.

It's been proven to lead to more socially healthy societies - less crime, less abortion, teen pregnancy, std's, obesity, etc,.. the list goes on and on.

Here is a study showing this to be true;

Economic security, full employment, human needs are met before human greed, full investment in people's health, education, and housing.

In general, it is a much more civilized system.
