For the baby you will need
-one package of newborn diapers.
-Baby face cloths to use as wipes (hospitals usually discourage the use of bought wipes until they know of any allergies the baby might have
-two "onesies" undershirts (one to wear home, and a second in case the baby spits up on the first!)
-two going home outfits for baby (see above)
-receiving blankets (4 or 5) for burping.
-warm snowsuit to wear (it is march afterall) or one of those snugli things that the baby can be put into in their car seat).
-Hat for baby
-passifier (newborn size).
-Bottles and nipples (if you are nursing or not- some babies have to have extra nutrition- either expressed breast milk or formula).
-diaper bag
-Car seat- even if you are taking a bus or taxi home. Many hospitals will not let you leave without a car seat.

For yourself, you will need:
-5 pairs of maternity underwear
-2 packages of maternity sanitary pads
-sleep-wear (one or two night shirts for the first little bit after birth- you need to be examined often and do not want to have to take off your PJ bottoms over and over again. Also another pair of pjs for after the first 24 hours). Make sure the tops of the pjs are easily opened if you are nursing.
-nursing pads (if you are nursing or not- you will be leaking).
-2 nursing bras (if you are nursing) or two regular bras if you are not nursing.
-Something to wear home
-slippers (don't want to be walking around the hospital in your socks).
-socks
-flip flops (for the shower)
-toiletries
-pillow with a bright pillowcase (so as to not mix it up with the hospital one)

For your coach/partner/husband

-clothes
-pillow
snacks (so that he/she does not have to wander off while you are in labour to spend a fortune in the vending machine)

Nightgown (front-opening styles are convenient for breastfeeding)
Bathrobe
Slippers
Shower cap if you use one

Clothes to wear home
For you: comfortable clothes that fit during mid-pregnancy
For baby: blankets, diaper, infant-size sleepers, gown, etc.
Cosmetics, toiletries
Copy of your Birth Plan
Camera or video camera with extra film and batteries
Change for small purchases from the gift shop
Personal comfort items (mp3 player, blanket, pillow, pictures)

you will probably want to take your own gown to wear, some pads (they provide some but most people have their own preference), bath stuff , something to read, house shoes, baby clothes, CAR SEAT for baby. Thats all I can think of right now but its been 8 years since i had my son so i'm sure im forgetting something. But most everything they can give you if you forget.

first off i wanna say congrats!
i'd suggest bringing things that comfort you. your own pillow...blanket,slippers,robe,hygiene products... things to distract you...music...magazines.... i'd bring a massager so you can get a back rub or even a good foot massage...camera so you can take lots of pictures...clothes to go home in and you can also bring a nightgown for after you have the baby...make sure to bring clothes for baby...a special outfit for the baby so he or she can have thier picture taken in it if you want... chap stick your lips may get very dry espcially after having the baby... thats all i think you may need. oh snacks for after having the baby..i know i wanted chocolate after having the baby. hope this helps & good luck to you and your baby!

The really important stuff that I used both times were extra PJs, my personnal hygene stuff, and slippers with rubber soles! Don't forget the slippers! You will be in pain and don't want regular shoes to wear!
