On tour in France they told their audience they were ashamed of our country bc of Bush. Toby Keith, being the patriotic country singer he is, stood up for our country, and made it clear he wan't ashamed of where he is from. He did a special tour to do free shows for the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Dixie Chicks responded on tour by wearing T-shirts that literally said "F U TK", which made a bad thing worse. The country music stations stopped playing anything by the Dixie Chicks. Fans boycotted their concerts, and their popularity dropped while Toby's popularity soared. They decided to try a new approach and Natalie Manes made the comment "We feel we are too sophisticated for the country music fans" Not a good thing when all your fans have been country. They released a new albumn and the title song was "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice". They've had some success, but it has been limited due largely to the fact that the new fan base they are targeting either doesn't know them or thinks of them only as "country singers"

The story behind the song "Not Ready to Make Nice" talks about the aftermath the group went through when they made the comment about George Bush. All the hate mail and threatening letters that they received from people. The group is not sure if they want to forigive the people who betrayed them for speaking their mind.
A Lyric from the song:
"I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over"

It's about the Dixie Chicks' comment they made during a concert overseas in 2005. To paraphrase, they basically said that they were ashamed to be from the same state as Bush. Good for them. I get sick of hearing people bust on those who don't support Bush and say that they don't support our troops...or at least you used to hear that a lot when Bush supporters thought war was the right thing. Anyone who STILL bellieves that is an idiot. Only voicing my opinion...Bush didn't take that right away from us, did he?

yea they had some conflict with George Bush and his stupid decisions, so there song is just saying that there not ready to make nice with him or whatever. Like i wouldnt blame them because of Bush's decisions on how he's running things. But i think they made an insulting song before that was like really pointing to him and his decisions.

I think Natalie was getting death threats and all, and the part of the song, they say Shut up and sing or my life will be over, someone wrote her a note saying they were going to kill her because of what she said, they told her to shut up and sing. Thats all I know.
