I am not sure about California, but you should be able to call the local WIC office and ask them.
The National guideline used to be to start solids at 4 months of age and WIC would release cereal vouchers at that time.
However, the recommended age for introducing solids has been changed to 6 months of age in the last few years and I think that the WIC guidelines have also changed to reflect that.

In either case, it won't be before your child is 4 months old.

If there is a medical reason (i.e. Reflux disease) and your Dr. wants cereal started sooner than WIC, you can get a prescription from the Dr. and WIC can start it sooner.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure about California, but I have a WIC appt this Friday
in TX & I'm going to be getting cereal. My twins will be nearly
4 months old by then. I think 4 months is the suggested age at
which doctors say to start babies on cereal.

im a military spouse at an overseas base and i know the WIC office here on base gives cereal and juice at 6 months unless you bring a prescription from babies doctor saying its been recomended earlier....then they will give it as early as 4 months. it was the same was in north carolina 3 years ago for my daughter......my 2 oldest children (now 6 and 5) got it at 4 months in virginia but i think its more the change in the recomendation on starting solids than the state that made the difference

NOT when the baby is born, you get food for the mother, and formula if feeding that way for the first year. 5-6 months -juice, whole milk and cereal for 5 years. You do get cereal for the mother even when you're prenant

i know here in wisconsin WIC starts giving you cereal once your pediatrician says its ok for them to eat it...but definitely not before 4months of age, unless the doctor reccommends you start earlier for some reason but than you may have to have written proof inorder to get it through WIC..thats if earlier than 4months.

4 months. I'm pretty sure you have to go to a class. "Starting Solids." Just like they make you go to a breastfeeding class, you have to do a solds class as well.
