People will label you as an under educated person and in alot of cases you will not be taken to serious by the listeners. Keep in mind, it depends on who you are speaking to. Speaking to a group that may not have good speaking skills themselves can allow you to fit right in.

If you are talking about do you need good speaking skills for a job, no. It depends on the job. People often ask why speech is a required class in high school and college. I am a recently retired elem teacher and I love to speak in front of large groups, but I do not think it should be necessary to take a speech class because shy people are only tortured by it. When you have poor speaking skills, it can make you look less intelligent.

Speaking is one of the most effective forms of communication. What we say conveys what we want others to know about our thoughts or understand our ideas. Ergo, if you do not have good speaking skills, you will not be able to effectively communicate your thoughts. You will be misunderstood and worse, be misinterpreted.
If you do not speak well, you may want to write your thoughts instead. Writing is another effective method of communication.
