Grog of the Cave Bear Clan was dubbed "greatest man in the world" in 35,563 BC by the elders of the tribe for his creation of the idea of god, demons, heaven and hell to threaten and bribe members of his tribe to keep them in line...and the world has never been the same since/

The man that is the greatest in the world would be the one that loves unconditionally, the one who gives of his time and money to others in need...not just because he should but because it is right. The man that is the greatest in the world doesn't throw money at a problem...he gets in and finds a way to fix it, even if just in a small way. The man that is the greatest in the world may not be the wealthiest with money, but is the wealthiest with his heart. And, the greatest man in the world - could be a woman.

Every human being has weaknesses. Greatest is he who can know as well as win over his own weaknesses....... of all the people I have read about or known otherwise, Gandhi is the best example I find.
He got freedom to millions through sheer force of truth and non-violence against the mighty and crafty British Empire.... one of the main factors responsible was that he had left no weakness in himself to be exploited by the clever British rulers..... one who is no slave of his own self can never be tamed by anyone. The British tried all the tricks in the world but this fearless man stood straight and bold with the invisible shield of truth and non-violence. The Britishers still do not understand what had hit them in the person of Gandhi.
He was a true lover of freedom and a truly free man himself.... otherwise it is impossible to understand his immense influence on millions of Indians so much so that he was able to more or less contain their uncontrollable anger against the foreign rule which could have so easily turned into a losing independence war against the powerful British army. He made sure there would be no usual independence war that the British can win through their superior firepower. Ultimately he proved to be more intelligent and powerful thinker than the British rulers.

To be a great man you need not do great things . He who does not hurt others as well as himself is the greatest man in the world. So if we try this any one can become great.

There was a wonderful man who came to our house when I was a small child, and dedicated many months helping my family to get through the toughest time. He had heard that our father had passed, and we were struggling with bills and the pain of his death. He was a stranger to us, however my mother trusted him to move into our home and help us restructure our lives. He gave us his time, out of the love that he had for the world. He did the chores that my father would have done if he were still alive. He helped with homework, He spoke to us all of his journeys. He always had a story to tell us when we were struggling with a problem. there was always an answer to every problem we had. He was a very wise man. He gently guided my mother through her grief, as well as us children. He assured us that my father was in Heaven and very happy. He brought food into the house. He brought hope and love back to our home when we were in the deepest need. Our prayers were all answered. Just as swiftly as he came into our lives, he left. He left behind him a Bible, and taught us that we could find help with any of lifes' struggles in the Book. His name was Jesus. We will forever be thankful for him, and all the gifts he gave to us.
Since that time I have always found an answer to my needs within the Book of Life. HE was the the greatest there ever was, and I know I will see Him again. <><

The greatest man in the world is actually a WOMAN. This "woman" will differ from case to case. She could be your mother, your sister, your daughter, your girlfriend, your wife, your teacher, your idol, etc. Regardless of the many roles of women, it still holds true for most, that nobody can affect your life like a woman can. :)

You need to clarify your question. Do you mean greatest LIVING man? Greatest living man OR WOMAN? What do you consider greatness? Do you include people like Adolf Hitler who had great impact, but not a favorable one?
