The truth is as recent immigrants Latina girls are trying to "marry up" if that makes sense.. White girls can afford to be less conscious of social position. If a white girl marries a Black or foreigner she is a saint.. If a Latin girl does it people assume she couldn't do any better.

Latinos parents are strong in who their children decide to date or marry.
My parents are like this, but they can't always get what they want.
I used to date a black guy and my parents flipped out! But that didn't stop me from being with a wonderful guy who made me happy. Then i dated a white guy, needless to say, i didn't tell my parents because I knew they would get all heated up about it, so i kept him a secret.
Now, I'm happily engaged to a wonderful Egyptian man! I love him dearly and my parents once again are turning this into a court case. They're even planning not to show up at our wedding because they don't agree that we should be together.
Well I got news for you, I'm marrying him wether or not my parents are present at our wedding or not.

Chances are that she has been promised to a cousin or some other friend of the family. The priest also calls the shots, and can forbid cross cultural relationships from happening. Best wishes
