Since you are in Cars & Transportation>Maintenance & Repairs asking about an ac motor I can only assume you mean ac compressor, since an ac motor needs ac voltage which is usually found in a house. However, an ac motor can drive an ac compressor.

So, an A/C compressor is for your air conditioning. It takes the refridgerant (new cars are 134A) and compresses it so your air comes out cold. If there is a problem with your compressor on your car expect to pay $350 and up to fix it.

There are two forms of electricty, ALTERNATING and DIRECT current. Thomas Edison favored "DC" saying it was safer, his rival, Nikoli Tesla, was successful in pushing "AC", and this is why we have "transformers" to convert electricity from one to the other. A battery is typically "DC", house current "AC". So typically any appliance in your home has an "AC" motor in it. Where motor vehicle electric systems (such as cars, trucks, recreational vehicles or boats) typically are "DC".
