DC stands for Direct Current (not AC or Alternating current like house current)
DC current comes from batteries.
The motor had two wires that connect to DC electricity - when the electricity goes into the motor it causes magnets to become magnetized and repel or attract other magnets in the motor. The repelling and attracting causes a shaft to turn that sticks out of the side of the motor! The shaft is used to do work like spin a fan or propeller or turn a wheel, a CD or DVD disk or they can even make a car move by moving gears in a transmission.
AC motors perform the same work but use Alternating electricity instead of DC.
