1. Because it is

2.A whole social ethic which is based around individual success rather than social success. The sociopathic belief that America can do no wrong which leads to the equally dysfunctional assumption that Americans can do no wrong

3.LA gang violence, War for Oil, "Get rich or die trying", Mercenary preachers in $5000 suits, Fast food and soda companies shoving diabetes causing products down the throats of it's own people. No National Health Service. A President with the most aggresive foreign policy and apparently the desire to start WW3. No Spiritual identity in common American culture. Amercan culture increasingly portrays a non-spiritual ideal through Hollywood.

4. Other countries don't have the wealth to be as materialistic as so many are in the US.

5. We see our own country being dragged down the same path by our idiot Politicians.

One word: celebrities. Almost everyone (in exception to those with brains) idolizes celebrities and wish they were them. If you ask someone to define the life of a celebrity here's how they'd respond: "They have everything their hearts desire and their life is just so perfect because they don't have to worry about anything we regular people do, like paying bills or being bored." People who look up to celebs are wanting to be just like them and live their kind of lifestyles. No wonder many people are in debt: they overspend!
