According to Wikipedia, the word premonition refers to a situation when future events are foreknown or forecast. Premonitions are attributed to the presence of supernatural or paranormal abilities. Many people have experienced a premonition, some more so than others. It can be as slight as a gnawing or gut feeling that something is not right or as overwhelming as a dream, such as Sandra Bullock's character in Premonition, where one can see what is going to happen.

Although it is often hard to prove, there have been many famous premonitions recorded throughout history. On of the most talked about is a premonition President Abraham Lincoln had just days before his assassination. He dreamt of people crying in the East Wing of the White House. As he went to investigate he was told that the weeping was for the President who had been assassinated. Days later he was killed in Ford Theatre by John Wilkes Booth and his body was later held in the East Wing so that people could pay respect.

Harriet Tubman, who could neither read nor write, was rumored to have premonitions that helped her lead herself and hundreds of slaves to freedom, safely. She often dreamt of soldiers capturing her and later avoided those places during her journeys. Many believe this is what ultimately allowed her to escape slavery and return five times to lead out some 300 slaves without getting caught or punished.

The sinking of the Titanic on its maiden voyage is one of the most talked about events in history. However, what many people do not realize is that only fifty-eight percent of the ship's passenger load was filled the night of its journey. Further investigation led psychiatrist Ian Stevenson to record more than nineteen incidents of premonitions and precognitions. Some cancelled their reservations after dreaming of the ship's doom while others said it was bad luck to sail on the ship's maiden voyage.

Yes. Several come to mind. Dating back to when I was about 19 or so somehow the number 1113 or 113 in a vague way started to have a subliminal "destiny" feeling/significance in my life. When my daughter was born she had some physical ailments (heart problems, etc.) I was 38 at the time, nineteen years after the initial impression of this strange "1113" or "113" destiny feeling. After her birth when I went to see her for the first time she was in room 113 at that particular hospital. Something told me (and I am not superstitious about the number 13) that this was a sign from God that her life would be short. She died two years later.

Several times I just "knew" that Barry Bonds would hit a home run in a particular at-bat, and the exact pitch he would do it on, even before the wind-up. The first time I told my wife that he was about to hit one she did not believe me; the next time I predicted it she sure did!

I have had many small ones, such as when I have sold stuff on craigslist I can tell who is actually going to deal with me regardless of how nice or hard-bargainish they act; and if they say the'll meet me at noon to buy those used whatevers, I can always tell when they won't show up.

My mother used to have what in Scotland is called "second sight". She would receive an impression that a friend of hers would knock on the door at a particular time in the future with no explanation as to why the friend would want to come at that time of night (of course none of these visits were planned nor were there any phone calls before hand). She did this many times - in fact on several of these occasions, she said she could actually see the person, describe what they would be wearing and how many times they'd knock. She was always right!

"You're traveling in another dimension- -a dimension not of sight or sound but of mind......"

I have these.. Visions at times, and it just happened again, and that why I'm on here to see wtf is happening.... Ok, so I will be daydreaming about something random, and then a vision will come to me... For example I think a year or so ago I had this vision that I was lighting a candle and putting it next to another candle, and I turn to see this dog that I've never seen before. My visions are always short and I always forget about them, until they actually happen. Today me and my moment to this store, and I bought a candle, because the one I had smelled bad. The day after Christmas, my moms friend gave me an American bulldog. So today I light my candle and as soon as I went to push it next to the other one, that feeling of awareness came over me, and it was the strongest one i ever felt, I was freaked out. The same exact thing that I visioned happened. I don't know what this is. It happens to me a lot, and I am going to start writing down everything that I dream or vision. I don't know if this would be called a 6th sense, or a premonition or whatever. I also get them in my actual dreams.

Premonitions That Came True

Awww Jess, I thought so much when I seen your #4 email. I've been watching footy all day so just come on Answers. (it's after 8pm btw). I haven't really had a premonition come true, nothing freaky or anything. My mum did though when she was a young girl. She was in Austria with her mum and her mum's family. Her dad was still in England. He was working and would be travelling later in the month. Anyway, this night she had a dream. In her dream her pet cat had been hit by a car and killed. She said it was very vivid and she could see the cat was lying at the side of the junction, right outside our old house. She woke up in floods of tears and told the family of her dream. Incredibly, later that morning they recieved the telegram from England saying that the cat had indeed been killed. When she got back to England, her dad was able to confirm that where and how she seen the cat lying in the dream, was actually where her pet was. Scary stuff eh?

When I was 10 years old , i had a dream in full color in the summer of 1948 of a blonde lady. In the dream, she was older than me, and we would be married. I married this women in 1968. She is 9 years my junior and was born in 1949. Also my father came to me in a dream, so that i would know he was ok. He died three months previous by suicide.

Yes, I did, a long time ago. I was a very young girl and I was in the back seat of our car in an underground garage. I just remember blurting out: "I have the feeling we're gonna have to slam on the brakes." As we exited the garage someone walked right in front of the car and indeed my father had to slam on the brakes. Both my parents turned around in astonishment and looked at me. It was a very weird experience. I can't tell you why the thought came to me, how it came to me, I just uttered it when it did.

Yes I had a dream about something a preacher at church said as a child, as I got older I forgot about it and then one Sunday we were at church and everything he said, gestures and everything that was going on happened! I have also had bad feelings about things happening and telling my husband to be careful, and then something did happen, but not to him.
