yes the #8 nuggets beat the #1 sonics in 1994 the year the sonics dominated the rockets all year and that opened up the West for the rockets who eventually won the title
and in 1999 (shortened season so not enough time to seperate) the knicks beat the heat to further that rivalry

Yes, the 1994 nuggets were a .500 team and beat the sonics who were 63-19, and the knicks beat the heat in 1999. Although it probably had more to do with the flaws of the sonics and heat, than with how good the 8th seed was, since those two teams never had much success in the playoffs during the 90s.

Yes in 1999 the 8 seed New York Knicks beat the #1 Seed Miami Heat.
The New York Knicks went on to the NBA Finals that year only to be soundly beaten by the San Antonio Spurs... :-)

Yes, I'm very proud to say that it was the Knicks in 1999 who beat the Heat in the first round, and not only that, but made history when they became the first 8th seeded team to make it all the way to the Finals. That's why I believe that if the Knicks make it to the playoffs this year, something special will happen again. I believe in this team, they have a lot of heart and fighting underdog spirit just like the 1999 team. Go Knicks!!!! Let's make heroic history again!

Ya the Nuggets were 8th like 15 years ago and they beat no. 1, then in 1999 the Knicks made it to the finals when they were the 8th seed.
