It sounds like depression with anxiety, not at all uncommon. It annoys the hell out of me that doctors can't diagnose something they study in psych 101. If you were bi polar you would have manic mood swings -- over the top feelings of power and control. You don't.

There are a number of things that it could be. Personally, I'd recommend going to see a mental health professional.
There are a number of possible reasons that the antidepressants didn't work. If it is bipolar disorder (you mentioned mood swings - are really energetic, euphoric periods part of those mood swings?) and not depression, then you probably need a mood stabilizer and not an antidepressant. That might explain it. Also, different antidepressants affect people differently. When I first started taking medicine for my OCD, it didn't really help. It just made me really irritable all of the time. I switched meds, and now I'm doing a lot better.
Just from reading your symptoms, it sounds like it could be depression, bipolar disorder, or maybe even an anxiety disorder like social phobia. The best way to find out for sure is to go to a clinic and get diagnosed by a professional. (I'm a psychology student, and I really do like to immerse myself in helping people like this, but this sort of thing is beyond where I am right now. Besides, to really get a good diagnosis, someone would have to talk to you for awhile to get a feel what exactly what your individual symptoms are.)
Good luck! I hope that everything goes well, and that you get things straightened out.

Go see the people and get diagnosed. Also try reading books like "the power of now" and "anatomy of the spirit" or maybe you just need some inspiration.

You are sick but not too sick to know it. Since you are sick you must not trust your own feelings and the voices in your mind. Trust your loved ones and your doctor.
