I posed this question to a group of friends last week and it evoked a lot more emotion than I expected. So far, out of about 15 people asked, my friend Jack and I are the only people who would take the languages.

EDIT-- Glad to see some of you are able to look deeper into the question than others. No one has mentioned the fact that with the ability to speak all the languages in the world you could make MORE than enough to live comfortably simply translating for private companies. You'd be the 8th wonder of the world.

Y'all don't understand, even with 40 TRILLION dollars you can't learn every language known to man - it's impossible to make your brain strong enough to hold every language like that, isn't it? Half of us can't even remember where we ate lunch at last Saturday, let alone comprehend languages we didn't even know existed. It's very much imaginable and possible for a person to have 40 billion dollars (Bill Gates had twice that much before the tech stocks crashed) but nobody in the history of man has the brain power to contain every language in the world to the point where they can understand and speak them all. It would make you truly one of a kind, money couldn't do that.

I would prefer to speak every language. That way I can go help others or do mission work in foreign countries without language being a problem. Besides, once the money is gone, I can't get it back. Languages don't get used up.

I would take the money in a heartbeat. If I had 40 billion dollars people would learn English so they could speak to me.

Well, I see two things happening here. I can take the $40B and use the money to learn other languages OR I can learn all of the languages overnight and then use that gift to earn the $40B.
