Yes, considering the first Europeans to land on North America's shores were 'immigrants'. Israel Zangwill used the term, 'melting pot' originally for a play, but later was used to refer to the society of the future USA that would become a society based on different people, culture, language, ideas, etc. All of these different entities that would 'melt' into one homogenous society that we have today.

Its true, and most of North America share that claim. So would Australia, So Africa, and some other places. The movement of human beings from one continent to another is the history of earth itself.
