I like going to the theater for movies like Harry Potter or others that should be seen on the big screen for the full effect. But with comedies or dramas, I prefer to rent and stay home so I'm not embarassed if I laugh to loud or cry.

Rent movie. In theaters you can't get up and stop the movie to go to the bathroom, get more food or w/e. In movie theaters you can't get up, talk or lay down. Besides I'm claustrophobic so I can't sit there for a while.

i have a movie theater that plays movies that are old in theaters but not on dvd yet. and it only costs 75 cents per person. I like the big screen and surround sound of the theater and also the movie rental place might not always have the movie you are looking for.

I am completely spoiled! My genius husband built a Home Theater for our family. This is a dedicated area of the house (closed in loft actually) and the walls are painted black. It is up some stairs so there is no outside light. We have green velvet curtains and comfy chairs.
There are NO:
talking people
rude people
people who bring their infants
ringing cell phones
rude people ANSWERING their cell phones
sticky floors
high ticket prices
very high concession prices
missing portions of the movie while you ran out to the bathroom
waiting in line
There IS:
surround sound, sub woofers
70 inch screen
projection viewing
microwave popcorn, yummy
grocery store (or even the dollar store) prices for candy, etc.
kids in bed asleep (no babysitter needed)
ability to pause and go bathroom or check on kids
NETFLIX!
I am spoiled! We sometimes have to wait for the DVD release of movies that we really want to see, but in the meantime, we watch Netflix movies of stuff we missed! Fantastic!
PS. Thanks honey (to Schneb)

Renting would be better, I personally would rather go to a Movie Trading Company and buy something. Movie theatres are a big rip off anymore, and renting is such a hassle.

Rent a movie, especially if you are with friends. Renting is cheaper and when there are a lot of people watching, the price is still the same. Also, you can pause whenever you like, rewind, use subtitles, change the volume, etc. And you can watch it as many times as you like.

I prefer my own home. I find it very difficult to tolerate people talking in the theater....it is so rude yet many people do it. Also, the price to see a movie and then to eat and drink while you are there...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNbelieveable. When I was a kid , popcorn was 15 cents; buttered=25 cents. (I just discovered there is no "cents" key on the keyboard...oh,yeah, you can get it with the alt key and some number!) Anyway, my home is so cozy and quiet. The food is FREE and I can lie down in front of a fire to watch....can't be beat.

I love the cinema, but so many movie goers are so loud, and rude, not only not turning off their cell phones, but actually taking the call.
We recently bought a huge tv and have good sound, so now staying home and watching a movie is much more appealing than going out and getting irritated.
