No, he's not a rat. I think the symbolism of it is just that there's always going to be rats, they're crawling all over the place, and some of them manage to squeak by and live.

Yeah I thought that was pretty good having the rat scurry across the balcony after he ( Mark Wahlberg ) killed the biggest rat ( Matt Damon ) who thought he had gotten away scott free.
Mark Wahlberg was just taking out the garbage, not a rat.
Scorsese gets the job done it is a great movie.

Mark Wahlberg was not a rat. The rat symbolized Matt Damon, that other guy we discovered was like him at the end and I suppose Di Caprio.

Smarr is right. Mark Wahlberg's character was not a rat. It was simply a symbolic statement. Did you ever see BLUE VELVET? In the end, the happy, spring robin chirping, then eating the worm was the same type of symbolism.

it must be that Leo deliver him a replica of the cd with Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson's converstion; it must be that letter that Leo gave to the decrease; it must be that Mark figured it himself by potential of putting bits and products jointly - he's technically a detective; it could additionally be that he did not be attentive to Matt replaced into the rat, he in simple terms killed him because of fact he hates him or, I additionally heard this thought, that Mark could be a rat too, and he killed Matt so he wouldnt be found out...? This action picture is so open to interpretation. it must be dissimilar issues.

No, he's one of the good guys who just happens to have a foul mouth. The rats just added atmosphere. The apparent rat (Di Caprio) wasn't the real rat (Damon).

No his character wasn't a rat, because he killed the worst one. I think the symbolism was, no matter how hard you try you can't kill them all.
