There are things that your doctor can do to help speed up the process, so at your next visit you should ask. I will be 39 weeks on Wednesday and I am going to have my membranes stripped and some other things done to help me along-good luck it is almost over!

Increase your activity level- unless you have been told to take it easy. Go for a walk several times a day. Do squats (about 10 at a time, a few times a day). Like the person above mentioned, have sex (it is, afterall, an activity with the benifit of the possible dialtion of the cervix - although this is not always the case - otherwise you would be banned from having sex for the duration of your pregnancy). Women are encouraged to be as active as they can be during labour to help things progress; it helps bring it on. Now don't run a marathon! Just move a little bit more than you have been!

Really, your due date is a hit or miss sort of thing (unless you had fertility treatment)- it has been known to be off a little bit.

I know you are probably excited and anxious about meeting your new little one, but all you can really do for now is REST!!! Some things that have been said to help start labor are sex (the semen can sometimes help soften the cervix)...and nipple stimulation can cause some contractions...I know TMI...sorry...but really none of that will work if the baby isn't ready to come out yet! I know that isn't what you want to hear at this point...believe me, I've been there 3 times!! Ha ha...but if I knew then, what I know now...wow, what a difference it would have made...it is believed that something in the baby's brain triggers the beginning of labor, so if that isn't happening yet, then it just isn't time yet! I know you REALLY don't want to hear this, but it is perfectly normal (especially for first time moms), to go up to two weeks past their due date...so, best advice...REST because you will need to be well rested for what you are about to experience! During your labor try to stay relaxed as well, and move around as much as you can...that will help speed up the process!!! Best of luck to you...I know, waiting is the hardest part, but be patient, your baby will be in your arms before you know it!!! And remember...no matter how long this wait seems to be, and despite the fact that you may start to feel like your baby will be a college graduate before he/she comes out...they WILL come out...I PROMISE!!!

Well DONT do what I did with my first kid!! Was at a party in Dec (she was born 1st week Feb) someone told me their doctor suggested drinking some cod liver oil to speed things up. Unfortunately I got the instructions assbackwards and instead of mixing up 1 tbsp cod liver oil with 1 glass of orange juice, I mixed up 1 cup of cod liver oil with 1 cup of OJ and all that did was make me take up residence in the bathroom for 2 days! Do not worry, baby will tell you when its coming but if you are really really concerned about this, ask your doctor. Dont take anything without first checking...good luck to you

one more week just hang in there!

Everyone told me walk and have sex. I did both. I was even induced and still didn't dialate! I was induced a second time a week later at 41 weeks and still only made it to 1 cm!! I ended up C-section.

It's time when its time! I'm not convinced anything works!
But good luck...try the sex thing becuase you won't be having any after!! :)

Having sex is the only thing that really works. Semen contains prostoglandins. In fact, when they induce, they sometimes use prostoglandins first, and they're made of animal semen (pig, I think). EEEWW!

Anyway, the baby will come when he's ready. Go get some sleep. You won't be doing that for a while after the baby is born.

Everyone dialates different, so you could be one of the ones who just dialates from 0 to 3 in no time! So don't let that stress you out. Try sex... the sperm softens the cervix and the orgasm gets your body contracting. (If you don't orgasm, try masturbation.) Also, nipple stimulation helps, as well as walking, and a hot bath (no hotter than around 99 degrees)

Things you could try that were approved by my doctor...walking, sex, nipple stimulation, and eating spicy hot wings. Once you are dialted to at least a 1 the doctor can strip your membranes. But for me all that worked was going to the hospital and being induced with pitocin or prostaglandins.

well if you live by mountains and there passable you can try taking a drive up the mountains I did that with my son and that night my water broke. Not sure if it was the elevation or if it was just time but it wouldn't hurt. Or if you have a friend that has there own plane mabey they could take you up for an hour or two.

Tell yourself you need another two weeks to finish getting ready, have lots of sex, take long walks, do things that it would be inconvenient to interrupt, and then wait. All of mine had to be induced at 42 weeks.
