Most 4x4's can do pretty good in snow and it depends on ground clearance as well as power. The main thing to remember, no 4x4 no matter how good it is will be no good unless the person driving it knows how to drive and control it in the snow. If you don't know how to drive in the snow you could be worse off in a 4x4 and get into more trouble and more dangerous situations. I have seen many get over confident in a 4x4 who think they are invincible and get hurt.

Also remember this always. 4Wheel drive helps you go..but when it comes to stopping it is just like any other vehicle on the road. A 4x4 will not stop any faster or better.

The Subarus have a lower chassis being a car, and their SUV series is not much higher. The Jeeps are a few inches higher.
I would say that if the snow was negotiable, the subarus can give the jeep a run for its money. But we might have to ask the "Mythbusters" to prove this theory.
I think that if the snow was really that deep, you need snow plows to dig everyone out. With deep snow and underlying ice, even the snow plows are taken out of commission. Thats just the way life is.

And just how often are you planning on driving in snow more than two feet deep? Unless you are the snow plow driver you have no need to be on the road if conditions are that bad.

All wheel drives have advantages over four wheel drives, and vice versa; you are comparing apples to oranges.

No matter which you choose, tires mean as much to traction as putting power to the four wheels. There is an old saying here that applies very well:

"A four wheel drive doesn't make you a better driver, it just gets you stuck further in the ditch!"

Subarus are just as good as any jeep in snow up to two feet deep.
anything deeper then the jeep would leave it behind.
