liberal arts, public speaking and debate... you better watch "thank you for smoking." you'll probably have a picture of why do you want to become one.

Political Science! Then take a minor in whatever you're particularly interested in, such as environmental science, economics, etc. Also, think long and hard about going to Law School. The vast majority of politicians and lobbyists are attorneys.

You don't necessarily have to major in anything in particular. My office has some lobbyists who don't have a related degree. I guess because this wasn't what they set out to do. But, I would think political science would be good. Or, depending on what you are lobbying for, choose that degree. For example, education.

But, be careful in the type of industry you care choosing to lobby for. You're going to have to be very, very strong. It's a very narcisistic type of career and very back stabbing. It's every man/woman for themselves. I have worked in this career for four years now.

Anything that has to do with PEOPLE SKILLS....you need to be an effective speaker as well as listener. You need to have self confidence and a pleasing appearance. In essence, you are a salesman for someone else's product,or way of thinking.
I know a lobbyist. He has a great sense of humor,is very knowledgeable on the programs he is promoting and he is good looking......he is VERY successful!

Rhetoric or pre-law.

You need to be a convincing talker, know how to work well with people and know quite a bit about our government, how it works, and the law of the land.
