(Don't toss in that crack-pot, age-old cliche that cats are liars, because just this morning we flew [NO! Not in a UFO!] to Washington, D.C. to have the F.B.I. administer a polygraph which he passed with flying [no pun intended] colors.)

He may be serious and wholeheartedly believe this happened. The phenomenon most likely associated with UFO abductions is sleep paralysis. A scientific survey by Harvard researcher Susan Clancy shows that what happens is the person has a sort of sleep walking incident only without the walking. You see normally the brain shuts down mobility from the neck down. This paralysis keeps us from walking around at night. But it is very scary during a sleeping/partially awake state. Most of these stories of abduction have the paralysis common thread. And the dream state can have extreme lucidity and be strikingly realistic.

These folks aren't nuts or liars. They are not even foolish. They simply misinterpret their experiences. Keep in mind that most dreams are fuzzy recollections so we think of the dream state as being very different from the wakeful state. However, under certain situations such as the one we're discussing, you are sort of "awake" in the middle of a dream where physical paralysis is real. The hallucination is quite vivid and quite realistic. The tough part is convincing the dreamer to ignore their senses and memories and believe that it was not real. Plus for all of us, it's a lot more fun to believe in the possibility.

I can't see that believing the cat could hurt anything. Since you believe you can talk to him I think the fact that you believe what he says just really doesn't matter much. ;) Good luck!
